Last year for Halloween look where we went – a real life farm to do some pumpkin picking!
Is it any surprise that they love to play with farm themed toys? Schleich is well known for their realistic figuring toys – you have probably seen one of their stands where they sell any kind of animal you can think of. Their toys, as well as looking realistic which is great for educational reasons, are also hand painted and high quality (sturdy – I know, the kids spent some time throwing these around!)
The My First Farm set consists of 7 items:
Bale of hay, some carrots and green apples.
I wondered for a moment if the 2.5 year old would like these – they are different to the usual toy figures we have which are cartoonish in design – but he loved them. In fact he found another lamb toy he has to compare to this one!
It was also a good way to play imaginatively (ie. doing the sounds of the animal, and picking which food they would choose to eat). Because they are high quality I see them lasting a long time.
The farm animals are exploring their new home and sniffing their surroundings curiously. The pig jumps up with delight – its keen sense of smell has led it to some apples and carrots. It devours them, munching happily. The farmer feeds the hay to the Black-Pied cow, which is already mooing hungrily. The cute little lamb is allowed onto the pasture for the first time today. The way it prances around is hilarious to watch. The hen watches the goings on with interest from the farmyard, and occasionally pecks at grains of corn.
